Blue Lake Elementary Media Program
School Improvement
The School Advisory Committee is a group composed of the principal, teachers, educational support employees, parents, and business partners, and community members that represent the ethnic, racial, and economic community of the school. They meet monthly to discuss the needs of the school and give their support by voting for various programs or interests that ensure the academic growth, goals, and objectives that the team has laid out in the School Advisory Plan. Below you can click on the PDFs to see our school's School Advisory Plan and our school's SAC By-laws. The Media Program plays an important role in student growth and success in school, therefore being a part of their discussions and School Improvement Plan is paramount. My role in the School Advisory Committee is to continue to advocate for our media program and how it impacts students' academic success.
Our School Improvement Plan includes our library's implementation of Renaissance STAR Early Literacy, STAR Reading, and Accelerated Reader. This reading program allows students to focus on their own reading growth, as we monitor their progress and provide our students feedback. The media program provide staff development and presentation about the benefits of this program-Renaissance. During media class, the students were taught how to see their reading goals, how to monitor their growth, and how to take Accreted Reader quizzes. Students will be rewarded for achieving their reading goals. They are engaged to read based on interests and reading levels that are "just-right" for the students. The program provides over 200,000 quizzes of various titles and genres in our library. Students understand that in order to feel success and demonstrate growth, they must practice. When student choose their interested books they are more likely to read and practice. This will help them increase their comprehension, vocabulary, and literacy skills. As result, they create a love for reading and feel an exhilaration in their success.

A strong media program is the foundation and building block for our students, teachers, and community. It's the HUB and heartbeat of our school and community by providing a wide collection of books and resources that promotes a love for literature, research, and digital learning.
